First MTAP National Conference on Mathematics Education

The Mathematics Association of the Philippines (MTAP) will conduct its First MTAP National Conference on Mathematics Education with the theme "Mathematics: Gearing Towards K to 12" on April 25-28, 2012 at Teachers Camp, Baguio City and on May 2-5, 2012 at the Bacolod Pavilion Hotel, Bacolod City.
This Conference aims to:
  1. update the participants on the latest Mathematics Curriculum and other preparations for the K to 12;
  2. enhance the knowledge and skills of elementary and secondary school heads and Mathematics teachers to produce graduates who are independent and life-long learners;
  3. strengthen their commitment to their vocation as molders of the youth;
  4. acquaint the Mathematics teacher-educators from Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) with the demands of these teachers in the field so as to align the preparation of pre-service elementary and secondary teachers to equip them with the knowledge and skills expected of them;
  5. provide them with a venue for sharing of experiences in integrating ICT in the teaching of Mathematics; and
  6. develop a network of Mathematics teachers, school heads and teachers that will work together towards excellence in Mathematics Education.
The participants in the conference are the principals of elementary and secondary private and public schools, Mathematics department heads/coordinators and Mathematics teachers of elementary and secondary public and private schools, regional and division/district supervisors involved in Mathematics teaching and teachers in TEIs.

The participants can she a 15-minute presentation on how the elementary and secondary Mathematics teachers use technologies, other innovations and best practices to improve learning Mathematics in their respective department, school, district and division. All concerned are requested to send a short abstract for the evaluation and for the inclusion in the program, with the title of the topic to be shared, name of sharer, designation, institution and telephone/cellphone number. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis for the selection of the presentor of the abstract.

All abstracts can be forwarded to Dr. Joel T. Torrecampo, MTAP Vice President and over-all organizer of the conference at e-mail address ittorrecampo@vahoo.com or at any of the telefax nos.: (02) 709-04-47/(02) 912-5249.

Each participant shall be charged a registration fee of Three Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP3,500.00) to those who will pay on or before March 30, 2012 to be deposited to the MTAP Account No. 730-4509-860 (for Baguio) and Four Thousand Pesos (PhP4,000.00) for those who will pay after March 30 until April 10, 2012 at Account No. 330-4078-651 (for Bacolod) in any Metrobank Branch. The registration form and the deposit slip are to be sent to MTAP through fax no.: (02) 709-0447. The fee will cover conference materials/handouts/CDs, bag, certificate of attendance, board and lodging and meals from supper of day 0 (April 25 for Baguio and May 2 for Bacolod) to lunch of day 3 of participants; honoraria or resource speakers and other miscellaneous expenses.
