National Research Conference on K to 12 Education (NRCKE)

Recognizing educational research as an important tool in developing a cadre of reflective educational practitioners who pursue better educational outcomes, the Department of Education Regional Office (DeEd RO) V, in cooperation with the Association of DepEd Directors (ADD) and the Bicol Association of Schools Superintendents (BASS) will hold the National Research Conference on K to 12 Education (NRCKE) with the theme "Nurturing a Culture of Research for Effective K to 12 Education Outcomes" on December 12-14, 2012 at the Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City.
The Conference aims to:
  1. showcase the educational research initiatives in DepEd;
  2. recognize best educational research projects undertaken;
  3. update participants on new research techniques and trends;
  4. provide a forum for enhancing the skills of educational researchers in the country.
The regional directors (RDs) shall submit at least five (5) research projects conceptualized/undertaken in their respective regions for presentation in this Conference. The submission of research project titles (completed, on-going, and proposed) shall not be later than October 1, 2012 to the Office of the Regional Director (RD), DepEd Region 5. Researchers from organizations outside the DepEd are likewise encouraged to present papers in this Conference. They shall submit their proposals directly to the NRCKE Co-Convenor not later than October 1, 2012.

The registration fee of Two Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP2,500.00) shall be collected from each participant including research presenter to cover breakfasts (2), snacks (4), lunch (2) and dinner (2) as well as other operational expenses. This shall be chargeable to MOOE or local funds (SEF) subject to the usual auditing and accounting rules and regulations.

1st National Research Conference on K to 12 Education

GUIDELINES


1.  All teachers, researchers, school heads, and supervisors employed in the Department of Education and interested graduate school students from the colleges and universities in the country are qualified to present a research paper during the 1st National Research Conference on K to 12 Education.

2.  Action research projects undertaken in the classroom/school may be presented in the said conference.

3.  Paper presenters are required to submit to the Registration Committee one copy of the full version of their paper which shall not exceed 2,500 words (about 10 pages in double-sized) short size bond paper) on or before November 16, 2012.

4.  The full version of the paper which shall use the "author, date" in-text referencing format, shall have the following parts:
  • Title
  • Abstract (not more than 200 words)
  • Introduction (including statement of the problem)
  • Brief review of literature (including synthesis of the state of the art, conceptual framework, and the theoretical framework)
  • Methodology and research design (including research respondents and instruments)
  • Results and discussion (presented on the basis of the research questions)
  • Conclusions
  • References
5.  Paper presenters shall be guided by the following pointers:
  1. The oral presentation shall last for 15-20 minutes with 10 minutes for open forum.
  2. The availability of multimedia projector is guaranteed.
  3. Changes in the schedule and venue of presentations shall be made only by the Conference Organizing Committee
  4. Presenters may distribute hand-outs to interested participants.
  5. For poster presentation, presenters are advised to use vertical (portrait) layout at 48x36 inches size. Font size is from 16-18. Poster should include the Abstract, Introduction, Research Questions, Research Design, Results, and Discussions, Conclusions and References.
6.  The schedule of activities for this three-day conference shall be:

7.  Aside from Certificates of Awards to be received by winning presenters, cash prizes shall be distributed to the three best papers.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE BEST PAPERS

A.  Clear Focus (20%)

Is the topic clear? Is it relevant to the conference theme? Is it clearly introduced at the beginning of the paper? Are the body of the paper and its conclusion clearly related to the topic?

B.  Research (25%)

Does the paper contain enough information to back up its ideas? Are there enough sources of information? Are the sources reliable? Are they recent? Are they varied and balanced, especially on controversial issues? When appropriate, has the paper used different types of sources such as books, journals, newspapers, interviews, or the internet?

C.  Reasoning and Organization (25%)

Are the key concepts defined and presented in a clear way? Does the paper's argument follow a logical outline? Are the parts of the paper coherent? Are they logically connected?

Is information presented clearly? When appropriate, did the paper use statistics, tables and/or graphs?

Did the author/s quote only when necessary? If so, was the quote accurate word for word? Did the author introduce every quotation and cite its source?

D.  Documentation (15%)

Is the information documented in the body of the paper? Are the sources cited in the APA style? Are they in the right places?

Does the paper's "References" page list all the works cited in the paper and no other? Are they cited correctly?

E.  Writing Mechanics (15%)

Is the paper free of grammatical, spelling and typing errors? Are the sentences short, clear, and free of unnecessary jargon?
