40th Atomic Energy Week (AEW)

The Celebration as mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1211 in 1973, aims to generate awareness of the Filipino people on the beneficial uses of nuclear science and technology in food and agriculture, health and medicine, industry, energy, and the environment.

In line with this celebration, DOST-PNRI, in collaboration with the regional offices of DOST will hold the Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz (PNSQ) for secondary schools in 15 regions of the country. The PNSQ, the first national nuclear quiz organized by PNRI outside of the National Capital Region (NCR), aims to enhance awareness, understanding and interest of the Filipino youth on nuclear science and technology and its beneficial applications. The quiz will consist of an elimination round in each region and the quarter-final, semi-final and final rounds at PNRI in Diliman, Quezon City.

The awarding of winners in the final round will be held during the AEW closing ceremonies on December 14, 2012. Prizes at stake are as follows: First Prize – PhP20,000.00; Second Prize – PhP15,00.00; and Third Prize – PhP10,000.00. The winners will also receive Medal of Recognition for the student, trophy for the school and Plaque of Recognition for the coach. Special Prizes will also be given by the PNSQ Awards and Prizes Committee.

The target participants to this activity are third or fourth year students from both public and private schools.

Participation of both public and private schools shall be subject to the no-disruption-of-classes policy as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.
