The ICC is a volunteer-based initiative to reduce impacts of marine debris which contributes to climate change and biodiversity loss. Each year, the volunteers have been mobilized to form a "litter army" to clean the waterways and collect information on the sources of debris for education or pollution prevention campaigns. To sustain this initiative, the ICC-Philippines is inviting volunteers to clean the waterways (esteros), shorelines, lakes, surface of adjacent seas and underwater areas. Interested volunteers may fill up the enclosed ICC Data Card.
In last year's Cleanup, nearly 600,000 people picked up more than nine million pounds of trash (9,184,427 lbs.) along more than 20,000 miles of coastlines (20,775 mi.). Future generations will be the ones dealing with the trash.
All concerned individuals from both public and private schools are encouraged to join the clean-up activity.
