In view of the marine and aquatic debris which is among the
world's pervasive pollution problems affecting the waters today, the
International Coastal Clean Up (ICC) Philippines will celebrate the 26th
International Coastal Clean Up (ICC) Day on September 17, 2011 with the
Department of Tourism (DOT) through the Philippine Commission on Sports
Scuba Diving (PCSSD) as the coordinating body for all the ICC
activities.
The ICC is a volunteer-based initiative to reduce impacts of marine debris which contributes to climate change and biodiversity loss. This year, the ICC is in need of volunteers coined as "litter army", to clean the waterways (esteros), shorelines, lakes, surface of adjacent seas and underwater areas. In support of this effort, the Department of Education (DepEd) encourages all teachers, employees and students in all levels from both public and private elementary and secondary schools and attached agencies to participate in the said activity. Likewise, the Regional Directors (RDs) are designated as Area Coordinators in their respective areas of domain/responsibility. For more information, please contact Ms. Josie Lanuzo, PCSSD at telephone no.: (02) 524-2242; Ms. Lilian M. Reyes, ICC Philippines telephone no.: (02) 418-0760 or Mr. Geronimo P. Reyes, ICC Philippines Coordinator at mobile phone no.: 0916-411-6446. - https://www.affordablecebu.com/
