The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Bureau of Elementary Education (BEE), in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Filipinas (BSP) launches the First National Search for GURO ng PAGASA.
The 2012 National Search for GURO ng PAGASA (Gantimpala para sa Ulirang PagtutuRO ng PAG-iimpok at Araling PanSAlapi) is in support of the BSP-DepEd partnership project in recognition of public elementary school teachers who exhibit enthusiasm and dedication in implementing Financial Education through the use of the Teaching Guides on Financial Education in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP), Araling Panlipunan (AP) and Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP). This initial step will surely contribute in helping create a new generation of financially literate savers starting with the school children and attain a continuing public awareness of the vital role of saving for the improvement of one's economic standing, as well as development of the country's economy.
The Search is open to all public elementary school teachers who have been handling any of these three (3) learning areas: EsP, AP and EPP and have been using the Teaching Guide on Financial Education for at least one (1) school year (SY). The nominees may be teachers of Grades I to VI for EsP, AP and EPP. However, the nominee must not be on leave during the covered search period, or one (1) year prior to nomination and during the actual search process.
Twelve (12) national teacher-finalists together with their schools shall be chosen from among the fifty four (54) regional winners including six (6) from the National Capital Region (NCR), one (1) from each learning area. The first of the national finalists from each of the three (3) learning areas will automatically be declared the GURO ng PAGASA and the most outstanding schools. All regional and national winners shall be recognized the awarding ceremony on December 3-4, 2012 which is part of the Asia Pacific Regional Summit on Child-Youth Financial Education to be held at the BSP Assembly Hall, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The Search shall commence in October 2012 until December 4, 2012 following the schedule below:

Pertinent documents and names. of nominees and schools, divisions and regions shall be submitted on or before November 15, 2012 to Curriculum Development Division-Bureau of Elementary Education (CDD-BEE), DepEd Central Office, DepEd Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.
Travel expenses of the national awardees relative to the participation to the awarding ceremony shall be charged to BSP Funds. Regional directors (RDs), schools division/city superintendents (SDSs), chiefs of elementary education, supervisors, principals, other regional and division representatives are invited to attend the awarding ceremony. However, their traveling expenses shall be charged to their local funds subject to its availability and usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
