32nd National Conference on Local and National History

The Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) will hold its 32nd National Conference on Local and National History with the theme "Celebrating 70 Years of the PNHS: Looking Back and Looking Forward: Historical Antecedents and Future Prospects in National and Local History” on October 20-22, 2011, at the Holy Angel University, Angeles City, Pampanga. The conference is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts-Committee on Historical Research (NCCA-CHR), Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies at Holy Angel University, Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). The objective of the conference is to revisit/look at the research and writing on local history of Luzon as well as of the regions in the archipelago, and to situate these studies in the context of national history. The conference will also try to identify gaps which can be addressed by future or further researches and encourage systematic studies on local and national history. The papers will also be presented in related social science discipline and in humanities.
The PNHS conferences and publications have presented researches not only on mainstream national history but also on local/regional histories which have enriched understanding of the cultural diversity that characterizes Philippine society. The presentations have also included studies in related social science disciplines and humanities. The two-day conference (October 20-21) will present papers on national and local history. The papers commemorating the sesquicentennial of Jose Rizal’s birth anniversary will also be presented. The optional Lakbay-Aral to historical and cultural sites in Pampanga will be scheduled on October 22, 2011.

A registration fee of Three Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP3,500.00) which will be charged to each participant will cover a conference kit containing a CD of all the conference papers, a book of abstracts with the program, complimentary PNHS publications useful for teaching and research, snacks and lunch for two days. The breakfast and dinner except for sponsored dinner(s), will be at the expense of the participants.
