Million Volunteer Run (MVR) 2 2013

The Philippine Red Cross will hold the Million Volunteer Run (MVR) 2 on February 10, 2013 from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. in all key cities and municipalities nationwide. This event has different run length (3K, 5K, among other.) which will be participated in by 100 Red Cross chapters and sub-chapters nationwide.
The MVR 2 aims to:
  1. advance the spirit of volunteerism to address today’s humanitarian challenges;
  2. heighten public awareness to reduce disaster risks and vulnerabilities of communities;
  3. raise funds which will be used in humanitarian activities of Red Cross including training for the youth and volunteers on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM); and
  4. rightfully claim that "we are a nation of volunteers”.
This activity will work in conjunction with the "Red Cross 143” which is a volunteer flagship program of the PRC that trains 44 volunteers (one leader and 43 members) in each of the 42,000 barangays who will be the first to prepare, the first to report and the first to respond to every disaster.

The participants to this activity are pupils and students (elementary, high school, undergraduate college and vocational students) and employees or working professionals and business owners.

This is also in line with the "Red Cross Youth” component of the PRC, where every school is encouraged to organize and establish an active Red Cross Youth (RCY) Council/Club with at least one adviser and at least 43 RCY volunteers doing youth-led activities for the school and community envisioning the future with well-developed humanitarian leaders.

Participation of both public and private schools shall be subject to the no-disruption-of-classes policy as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.

This is also subject to the no-collection policy as stated in Section 3 of Republic Act No. 5546 entitled An Act Prohibiting the Sale of Tickets and/or the Collection of Contributions for Whatever Project or Purpose from Students and Teachers of Public and Private Schools, Colleges and Universities (Ganzon Law).
