Million Volunteer Run of the Philippine Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will hold the Million Volunteer Run on December 4, 2011 from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in all key cities and municipalities nationwide. This event is a 5K run which will be participated by the different Red Cross chapters all over the nation. There are around 100 chapters and sub-chapters which are expected to join the said fund raising event. The activity will work in conjunction with "143 Red Cross,” a volunteer flagship program in which the PRC trains 44 volunteers (1 leader and 43 members) in each of the 42,000 barangays as disaster responders and providers of basic assistance such as first aid and psychological support.

The activity aims to:

1. heighten public awareness to reduce disaster risks and vulnerability of the community in the interest of saving lives;
2. build an army of 143 humanitarian soldiers in every barangay of the country who will respond to disasters, donate blood and alleviate human suffering; and
3. train and equip the Red Cross 143 volunteers in each barangay by way of Disaster Risk Prevention.
   

Each volunteer will receive a Race Kit which includes the following:

1. Singlet;
2. Race bib;
3. Disaster preparedness guide;
4. Red Cross 143 ID card;
5. Official volunteer run shirt;
6. 143 whistle; and
7. Red Cross premiere bronze members with one (1) year accidental benefits.
   

All DepEd officials and employees are invited to join in this event. The registration fee for each participant is One Thousand Pesos (PhP1,000.00).
