Celebration of the National Hypertension Awareness Month (NHAM)

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1761, declaring May as the National Hypertension Awareness Month, the Philippine Society of Hypertension (PSH) will hold a parade as the kick-off activity to highlight the celebration on May 21, 2011 at the New Covered Basketball Court, Quezon City Memorial Circle, Quezon City. This activity with the theme "High Blood Ka Na Ba? Alamin ang BP, Bago Magsisi" was initiated by the World Hypertension League (WHL). This is also an international event which takes place around the world to highlight preventable stroke, heart and kidney diseases caused by highblood pressure and other factors.

The following activities will be held during the said event:

1. Formal launching of the Hypertension Alliance in the Philippines (HAP);
2. Short lectures on hypertension and healthy lifestyles;
3. Free BP measurement, weight, height and BMI check, random blood sugar test, cholesterol check, and ECG check, among others;
4. Distribution of official event t-shirts, snacks, and other freebies to participants;
5. Tarpaulin signing by members of the alliance; and
6. Guru led aerobics and calisthenics.
   

The PSH Media Forum will also be held on May 17, 2011 at the Patricia Room, Annabell's Restaurant located at No. 194, Tomas Morato, Quezon City. The Hypertension Alliance of the Philippines (HAP) members will be presented to the media/press.
