Option 1
For urgent or emergency situations, you can call BPI Customer Service right away and request for an immediate blocking of your BPI bank account. This will not close your account. Rather, it will avoid any unauthorized withdrawals or transactions of your account. The unauthorized person who holds your ATM or Passbook cannot withdraw or transfer funds, or do any financial transactions of your bank account. Thus, making your money safe. If you want to close your bank account, you must go to a BPI branch, bring a valid id and tell the bank employee that you want to close your BPI bank account.
Option 2
Another option is to withdraw all your money from your BPI bank account and leave it as it is. If you don't do any transactions (such as withdrawal, deposit, fund transfer, bills payment, etc.) for two years, your BPI bank account will automatically close. In the Philippines, usually a bank account without a transaction for two years will be considered dormant. This type of account will be a candidate for automatic closure. But if you want to use it again after two years of being dormant (inactive), you need to pay a dormancy service charge plus the penalty for falling below the required maintaining balance. So it's better not to use it again.
