TV randomly turns on and off repeatedly

I have had my Vizio for a little over a year, a few months ago it started to lag when I changed the volume or channel with my cable remote. We have lost the remote to the tv so it can only be controlled by the cable remote, smartest app via the phone and another vizier remote we have for a TV in the kids room (just realized about a year ago the kids tv would turn off by itself but immediately turned back on).

Same problem here and we tried all the fixes and nothing. While trying all this someone moved the fire stick remote and the TV instantly reacted(turned off and on). We thought this to be strange. So we covered up the ir on the fire stick remote and low and behold the TV stayed on. We unblocked the ir signal and the TV started turning off and on again. Removed the batteries from the fire stick remote and the TV stayed on. After we were sure this was the cause we put the batteries back in and everything worked fine. What I gather is the fire stick remote was cycling on and off thereby turning the TV on and off. After removing the batteries it somehow stopped the cycling and reset the remote TV is working fine now. If this is happening to you maybe you want to remove other remotes from the area and see if they may be the problem.

you do want to go ahead and check the power board. This could be a bad capacitor issue as well as a backlight issue. Measure the voltages going to your backlight etc. Also, since you are having a hard time with the remote control etc. consider replacing the remote with one that works for your TV. When your TV turns itself off, shine a flashlight at an angle against your screen. see if you can make out shapes and silhouttes etc. Let us know what you find."

This advice saved me. In my case HDMI 2 was fried, So I moved my Firestick to HDMI 1. Note that I also had to remove the batteries from my firestick remote before it stopped power cycling. Thanks everyone for reporting this issue and the fix.

"I had this problem too. It was the remote from the Firestick I had plugged into the tv that causing it.

I took the batteries out of the remote, and that fixed it. I may have to do it now and again in the future but I was SO happy that this was the solution and not replacing the tv."

I have a Vizio 70” e series and it started this cycling off and on. I tried everything I found on the web without any results. I finally just did a factory reset of the T.V. and the problem has not returned. Hope this will help anyone out there that has the same problem.

Had the same issue with the TV in our living room. Thought the TV was fried so moved the fire stick to the bedroom and began having the same problem with that TV - different brands of TVs. So followed your advice. Unplugged TVs, unplugged all HDMIs, took batteries out of all remotes. Then held down power putt on on TVs to reset. Then plugged TVs back in and plugged in Directv boxes back in and put batteries back in those remotes. Both TVs are fine hallelujah! Did not plug back in the Firestick to either TV and did not put back in its batteries. Would much rather replace our firestick than 2 TVs.
