2012 Education Week

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 2399 dated February 25, 1985 designating the second week of December of every year as Education Week, the Department of Education (DepEd) shall celebrate Education Week nationwide with the theme K to 12 Basic Education Program: Engaging Stakeholders and Communities Forward on December 10-14, 2012.
The celebration aims to:
  1. reaffirm and emphasize the role of education in empowering and developing the young to be productive citizens of the country and responsive to the needs of the times;
  2. drum up support for the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program;
  3. strengthen cooperation among stakeholders in education to support the necessary and significant changes to achieve quality and relevant education; and
  4. inspire every educator to do more for the schoolchildren to ensure their future.
All school officials are encouraged to conduct simple and austere yet high-impact and memorable programs and activities during the week consistent with the theme and objectives of this year's celebration. Regional directors (RDs) and schools division/city superintendents (SDSs) are enjoined to take active lead in the week-long celebration. Enclosed is the suggested list of activities which may be conducted by all DepEd offices and schools, including school-based clubs or organizations. Necessary arrangements shall be made to enable teachers, students and pupils to participate in the celebration without disrupting classes.

Expenses relative to the conduct of activities during the week-long celebration shall be charged to local funds/savings/cultural funds of the concerned office subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
All division and regional offices shall submit a report on the conduct of activities celebrating Education Week on or before January 15, 2013 to the Office of Undersecretary Yolanda S. Quijano, Attention: Atty. Ernesto R. Sotto Jr. of the Department of Education-Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (DepEd-CSCA) at the Ground Floor, Mabini Building, DepEd Central Office, DepEd Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES

1.  Simultaneous Flag-Raising Ceremony and Opening Program at 8:00AM on December 10, 2012
(The program shall be highlighted by an inspirational talk of the highest official present who will talk about the K to 12 Basic Education Program. Parents, Barangay Officials and the community shall be invited to attend.)

2.  Putting Up of Bazaars/Exhibits Showcasing Outputs of Pupils and Students in EPP/TLE/TVE

3.  Seminar/Training/Workshop/Team-Building for Teachers and Students

4.  Exhibits of Outstanding Achievements, Science Investigatory Projects and Other Projects

5.  Awarding of Outstanding Teachers, Employees, Programs and Projects, and Awarding of Certificates of Appreciation to all Partners, LGUs, NGOs, PTAs and Sponsors

6.  Academic and Co-Curricular Contests

7  Tree-Planting, Tree-Growing and Tree-Caring Activity to be led by the Youth for Environment in Schools-Organizations (YES-O)

8.  Run for Education
(The funds collected will help in renovating school buildings destroyed by typhoons.)

9.  Conduct of Brigada Eskwela

10.  Batik Paaralan
(The Supreme Student Governments and Supreme Pupil Governments will serve as teachers to out-of-school youth, street children and others. Officers may give books, papers, pencils, pens and other school materials.)

11.  Kindergarten Donation and Advocacy
(The Supreme Student Governments and Supreme Pupil Governments may visit the Barangays within their vicinity to encourage and remind parents to enlist their five-year old kids for Kindergarten. They may also conduct solicitations for books and toys (old and new) for donation to Kindergarten classes.)

12.  Pasko Na!
(Schools and offices will conduct a pre-Christmas activity such as gift-giving. Beneficiaries should come from poor communities, orphanages and others.)
