According to Tupas, members from both parties, Liberal Party and non-Liberal Party, and some justice committee members reported that they received calls from the said official from Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC). Tupas didn't name the official.
The Inquirer tried to get a reply from Iglesia ni Cristo officials but they refused to comment.
Tupas added that, aside from the Iglesia Ni Cristo, the former house members had also called the incumbent representatives of their districts to convince them to vote "NO" when impeachment of Gutierrez is taken up in plenary this week. Tupas also didn't name the former congressmen or house members.
Because of the calls received from the Iglesia Ni Cristo official, some congressmen who earlier promised to vote for the impeachment of Gutierrez have now doubts to support the impeachment.
Tupas said that the plenary vote on the impeachment of the Ombudsman would start on Tuesday as he assumed that debates regarding the impeachment would not be finished on Monday.
"This is a big battle. I’m still confident of getting the 94 votes required to impeach Gutierrez for betrayal of the public trust. Let’s hope that we will make history on Tuesday,” Tupas said. - https://www.affordablecebu.com/
