Observed worldwide, this occasion serves as a platform for raising greater public awareness on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), honoring those who have died of AIDS, and enjoining the national leaders to become active participants in putting together and carrying out an effective country response to this health condition.
AIDS Council (PNAC), the country's leading policymaking and advisory agency on HIV and AIDS, of bringing HIV infections to a halt by 2016 as well as achieving zero incidence in AIDS-related deaths and discrimination against persons with HIV.
As the number of HIV infections has grown to an average of six (6) cases per day as
of this year, efforts to disseminate knowledge on HIV and AIDS to a wider audience and call on more sectors to join the campaign to halt HIV and AIDS have become especially urgent.
For the above reasons, everyone is enjoined to participate in the following suggested
activities during the aforementioned date:
- Putting up of bulletin board displays in strategic places, giving emphasis on the theme;
- a highlighting of the significance of the commemoration during the flag ceremony;
- conduct of symposia and panel discussions, film showing, among others on HIV and AIDS prevention and control; and
- integration of HIV and AIDS education in appropriate learning areas.
