The conference aims to recognize the outstanding cross-stitching skills of elementary and secondary Home Economics teachers from both public and private schools.
The Home Economics elementary and secondary teachers in public and private schools must be members of the PHEA to be able to join the search. The regional supervisors must select one (1) representative each from the elementary and secondary level in their respective regions to join the national level competition. The previous winners in the PHEA needlecraft competition are no longer allowed to participate.
The criteria for the selection of regional reperesentative are the following:
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience as a Home Economics teacher teaching needlecraft such as cross-stitch among others (should have a certificate signed by the principal as proof);
- Must possess outstanding skills in needlecraft;
- Must be a winner of needlecraft or skills contest or selection process conducted by the DepEd within the region from June to September 2011;
- Must have photos of her winning piece/s as proof; and
- Must be a PHEA member.
All registered regional representatives will contend with a Stitch-On-the-Spot Competition to determine their needlecraft skills. The contestants shall stitch a small portion of an Amorsolo pattern and must finish this within three (3) hours. The DMC Focus Global, Inc.will provide the materials for the competition.
The criteria for judging the competition are the following:
| 1. Proper Way of Stitching | 50% |
| 2. Neatness (consistency of stitches, neatness of the back) | 30% |
| 3. Techniques (organization of materials, how to start, ability to handle tension) | 20% |
