The Public Services Labor Independent Confederation (PSLINK) in cooperation with the American Teachers Federation (AFT) is implementing a landmark international project dubbed as " Civic Voice: An International Democracy Memory Bank Project." In line with this project, several activities will be held on June 24-29, 2011. On June 24, the PSLINK in partnership with DepEd Region IX and the Pagadian City Division will also be scheduled on June 27 in Tacloban City in partnership with DepEd Region VIII and the Tacloban City Division.
The project aims to: - improve civics instruction of teachers by infusing inquiry-based instructional methods and comparative approaches;
- enhances civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions of students through civics-focused instruction, community-based research projects, and video interviews of democracy activists; and
- develop an online democracy memory bank housing classroom modules and teacher's guide on comparative democracy.
Likewise, the National Writing Seminar will be held on June 27-29, 2011. The seminar aims to promote classroom utilization of Civic Voices videos and to develop local teaching materials which integrates Civic Voices into classroom sessions or required course work. The participants to this activity are selected teachers who have actively implemented the project all over the Philippines. The two (2) AFT delegates from the United States of America (USA) will help facilitate the seminar. The PSLINK will be responsible for the food, transportation and accommodation of the participants.
