How Can An OFW Open A Bank Account in the Philippines?

As an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), the best way to keep your money safe is to put it in the bank. There are many types of bank accounts that you may like to apply for. They are savings account, checking account, time deposit, etc.
Here are simple steps to follow for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to open a bank account in the Philippines.

1.  First, you need the following requirements:
  • Valid ID. Dont forget to bring NSO birth certificate and either of the following: Passport, OFW ID, Seaman's book, or PRC ID.
  • Initial deposit. It ranges from P1,000 to P10,000. To be sure, bring at least P10,000 pesos for initial deposit.
  • At least 2 pieces of your latest 2" x 2" or 1" x 1" pictures.
  • Ballpen (optional)
2.  Go to a bank and ask a bank officer that you want to open an account.

3.  A bank officer will attend you and prepare to fill up the application form.

4.  Follow further instructions of the bank officer.

Reminders

You cannot open a bank account if you are not in the Philippines. You must personally visit a bank where you want to open an account because you need to sign the application form.

If you are currently outside the Philippines and want to open a bank account, you may choose to search for an overseas branch of your preferred bank. Try to search them in Google or in the bank's website.

To avoid more hassle, it is recommended to open a bank account while you are in the Philippines.
