A. Theme
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) launches Sining PSE: 2012 National Art Competition (Sining PSE) with the theme Nagkakaisang Pilipino Para sa Maunlad at Masigasig na Kalakalan.
B. Objective
The Sining PSE: 2012 National Art Competition is the first kind in the world where a currency and stock exchange institution invests in the creativity of the people through an art competition. The competition aims to position PSE as integrating art in advocating the role of business in national development and PSE as a supporter of Filipino artistic talent and culture where budding talents could emerge as the next Philippine master. It aims to highlight and showcase PSE's role as partner in social and economic progress, and to promote public awareness and appreciation of an investment culture in the country.
C. Eligibility
1. This is nationwide painting and sculpture contest (Sining PSE) open to all non-professional Filipino citizens who are 21 years old and above as of the date of entry submission. Non-professional artists are those who have not staged nor conducted a solo exhibit at the time of the Sining PSE contest launch on June 13, 2012 and who will not stage nor conduct a solo exhibit until the end of the competition on November 9, 2012.As proof of age and citizenship, a Participant must submit a photocopy of a valid government-issued ID (GIID), e.g. birth certificate, passport, or any valid GIID showing birthdate and citizenship of the participant.A Participant can only submit one (1) entry per category.2. Participants to the Sining PSE are required to submit the following documents on or before October 1, 2012:
i. Duly accomplished application form; andii. any government-issued identification card showing their date of birth and citizenship.
3. Directors, officers, employees, agents and representatives of The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), its subsidiaries, affiliates, and companies/entities involved in the Sining PSE (e.g. suppliers, affiliates and companies/entities involved in the Sining PSE (e.g. suppliers, distributors, advertising and promotions agencies, companies/entities involved in the production of the program materials) as well as their respective relatives up to the 2nd degree of consanguinity and affinity are not eligible to participate in the Sining PSE.
4. Application forms for the Sining PSE are made available at the Project Secretariat's office c/o Studio 5 Designs, 28 Paseo de Roxas corner Jupiter St., Bel-Air Vilage, Makati City, with telephone numbers (02) 8953971/75 and downloadable at www.pse.com.ph or on www.facebook.com/siningPSE. There is no participation fee.
D. Categories and Judging Criteria
Sining PSE has two (2) categories: painting and sculpture. In line with the objective of the Sining PSE to develop creativity, originality, and artistic excellence, the contest requires that all entries submitted for the competition must be original works by the participant and must not have been entered to other related art competitions. Entries that seem to be replicas of existing works in terms of composition are subject for automatic disqualification.
1. Painting2. Sculpture
- Painting is open to oil/acrylic media. Size is fixed at 91.44 cm x 121.92 cm (3 ft x 4 ft).
- Entries must have been done after June 13, 2012 (date of contest launch) and must be the Participant's original work. They must not have been exhibited and not previously entered in any competition, whether international or local.
- Artworks must be sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of multiple travel and handling. Art works must be two-dimensional, dry, properly packed, museum-wrapped and ready for exhibition with provisions for wall-bound hanging.
- Entries for the Painting category will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Originality - 30%
- Visual Impact (message) - 30%
- Rendition (technique) - 40%
E. Submission of Entries
- Free standing
- Height must be at least 1 foot but not more than 1.5 ft (including base) on all sides. Base must be at least 1 inch but not more than 2 inches in height and not more than 1.5 feet on all sides.
- Allowed medium to be used could be one or any combination of the following durable materials: resin, fiberglass, glass, metal, wood, stone (concrete), properly fired clay (e.g. terracotta or stoneware) with a weight not exceeding 40 kilos. The use of a medium other than the specified medium will be considered ground for disqualification. Materials that easily break apart and are flammable (such as papier-mache, charcoal, soap, etc.) and art works with pointed objects and sharp protrusion will no be accepted. Relief sculptures are not allowed.
- Entries for the Sculpture category will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Originality - 30%
- Overall Impact (message) - 30%
- Rendition (use of material) - 40%
F. Disqualification1. All entries should be submitted to the Project Secretariat c/o Studio 5 Designs by midnight of October 1, 2012. Regional entries sent to the Project Secretariat via standard registered package or courier must be postmarked October 1, 2012.2. All non-NCR entries will have to be sent through courier by participant at his own expense.3. All entries must be properly labeled with the following:
- Category (painting or sculpture)
- Artist's details (with the following information: name, address, telephone, mobile phone or telephone/fax numbers, and email address)
- Title of work
- Date of completion
4. Each entry must be accompanied by the following:
- Duly accomplished and signed Official Entry Form
- Notarized affidavit and waiver certifying originality of entry and agreement to the Sining PSE Rules and Regulations. One page - maximum of 500 words artist statement including description of the artwork, creative process and message the artist would like to convey. Statement may be written in either English or Filipino.
- One 5x7-sized colored photo of the artwork
- One 2x2 colored photo of the artist.
- Proof of age and citizenship via a copy of any valid government issued IDs (GID) showing birth date and citizenship.
5. The artwork must be signed by the artist6. While all possible care will be exercised in handling the entries, the PSE assumes no responsibility for any loss or damage to the entries before, during, and/or after the Sining PSE. The PSE or any of its representatives are not responsible for or answerable to any entries or art work damaged in transit, during storage or while in possession of the said entries.
Any participant or entry found to have violated the Sining PSE Rules and Regulation will be disqualified from the Sining PSE.
The PSE reserves the right not to award, withdraw, and/or forfeit any of the prizes to participants or entries who/which fail to meet certain requirements or are found to have violated the Sining PSE Rules and Regulations. All decisions of the Board of Judges designated by the PSE shall be final.
G. Prizes
Painting : 3 Grand Prizes and 7 finalists will be awarded
Sculpture : 3 Grand Prizes and 7 finalists will be awarded
PSE reserves the right to use the name and photo of the artist, his or her entry, free or charge, in any broadcast, telecast, print, or any medium, internet websites, and or publicly and print materials (e.g. brochures, calendars, catalogues) produced by the PSE during and/or after the Competition. All prize-winning entries shall become the properties of the PSE.
The PSE also reserves the right to exhibit the entries, as it may deem fit and to decide which of the entries will be displayed during the exhibit.
H. Retrieval of Entries
All works which do no qualify must be retrieved at the Project Secretariat by December 1, 2012.
Provincial participants' entries may be sent back to participant provided that a waybill our courier transmittal number is received by the secretariat not later than December 1, 2012.
The participant must present proper identification card to the authorized Project Secretariat personnel to claim his/her entry. In case a representative will claim on the participant's behalf, the representative must present a duly-signed authorization letter and a photocopy of the artist's valid ID.
Entries not collected by this prescribed period shall become the property of the PSE, which will then dispose of them in whatever way it deems fit.
I. Ownership and Copyright of Submitted Entries
The participant acknowledges that should his/her entry be chosen among the top 10 finalists and/or win the Sining PSE Competition, any and all rights and interests pertaining to the winning entry, including but not limited to ownership and any and all intellectual property rights thereto shall pertain to the PSE.
On the other hand, should a non-winning entry remain unclaimed until the December 1, 2012 deadline for retrieval of entries, any and all rights and interests, including but not limited to ownership and any and all intellectual property rights thereto, pertaining to the unclaimed non-winning entry shall pertain to the PSE.
J. Acceptance of Rules and Regulations
By submitting an entry, participant agrees to abide by the Rules and Regulation of the Sining PSE.
