Epson 740 printer stuck & noisy

Epson 740 printer stuck & noisy

Since replacing black ink cartridge, when I try to print anything, the moving "Cartridges Holder" makes grinding noises & won't or can't leave it's starting point, though it seems to be trying. Both black & color warning lights are on & paper light is blinking. I believe that the paper is fine. over the last week it has worked once or twice, but goes back to it's "stuck" Mode.

"You can try to manual reset your printer by pressing and holding LOAD/EJECT and CLEANING buttons,

press POWER button and hold it until you see the blinking INK OUT and PAPER OUT LED's

Release all buttons.

In 2-3 seconds press and hold CLEANING button, until all LED's will blink.

If you have no success with that try to hold down the paper feed and ink button and turn on the printer.

The paper light will light

Release both buttons and press the ink button for about 10 seconds until it resets.

Here is a great forum that discusses issues with your model. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/...

But ultimately I agree with mayer. Sometimes we just have to part with things mostly out of economical reasons. It becomes almost impossible to get parts for the older equipment. Good Luck to you and let us know how it is progressing."

"Your printer is over 10 years old now. What you need to know is that the ink jet printer makers are in the business of making huge profits on refills. They'll sell you a printer a a loss. It's just not worth it to try to repair one if you have to spend anything on it.

Five Things You Need to Know about The Cost of Printing

• Cartridge prices are irrelevant unless you also know how many pages the cartridge will print. Focus on the cost per page, not the cost per cartridge.

• You can compare two printers' yields and costs per page only if their output was measured on the same tests—preferably the ISO/IEC standard.

• Your mileage may vary. Keep in mind that the ISO/IEC standard is based on specific pages that may or may not be typical of the pages you print.

• The current standard covers documents only. A separate standard for photos is being created, which will help give a more complete picture of ink yield.

• What matters is the total cost of printing, which includes the price of the printer plus the cost for all the pages you'll print over its lifetime.

Here's an example, From the Apple store you can get a new Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer for $99.95: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1411L...

Now here's the ink combo pack for $49.35: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/Produ..."

"I have an Epson 740 - works well. A few years ago, the cartridge carrier used to jam, and the machine would stop. I was advised to lightly lubricate the slider bar with light machine oil like 3in1, not WD40. Did that and it's worked ever since.
