egr valve and intake manifold

egr valve and intake manifold

put a new egr valve on my 2000 honda accord ex vtec 2.3 and engine light still on. I hear that i might have carbon buildup in the intake manifold does anyone know how to remove it to clean it

Hi, If your problem truly is carbon buildup in the manifold be prepared to spend around $300 to fix it. It requires a special machine that only dealerships and high end repair shops can afford. I would check with your dealer and see what he wants to charge for the procedure and then shop around for a better deal. Good luck. Ralph

when you replaced the egr valve make sure you clean out the passages that the gasses have to travel through. They can get clogged up. Throttle plate cleaner helps.

Unfortunately it turns out for a 1998 accord, they redesigned the system. Luckily it looks like the answered it here: How to clean out the EGR system in a 1998 accord

The image above has the port that must be cleaned out circled. Looks like you take off the intake, and use some carb cleaner to clean out the port."
