Door bell rings by itself then hums.

Door bell rings by itself then hums. My wired doorbell will ring occasionally by itself. Then the electronic part will hum continuously. Do I just need to replace the entire unit? It's old. Is there a trick to doing this?

Steve Amerson, check your door bell switches that are on your door :) see if those have loose contacts. If you want to change your doorbell, it would be a straight forward exchange, but the symptoms you describe are more that of loose contacts.
