Apple Time Machine hard drive I'm thinking of purchasing a hard drive for the time machine option on my macbook pro.

You might want to partition the drive. Otherwise, yes, Time Machine will eventually take up the entire drive. By partitioning it, you can reserve part of the drive for non-Time Machine use.
