First Philippine Conference on the Baybayin Stones of Ticao, Masbate

The University of the Philippines (UP) Ticao-Masbate Anthropological Project Team in collaboration with the local and provincial officials of Masbate province, the National Museum of the Philippines and the 170+ Talaytayan MLE Incorporated will hold the First Philippine Conference on the Baybayin Stones of Ticao, Masbate on August 5-6, 2011 in Monreal, Masbate Province.
This conference aims to:

1. heighten awareness among Filipinos on the historical and cultural importance of the Baybayin and other cultural artifacts;
2. provide a forum for stakeholders on how to preserve and protect the cultural heritage of the peoples of Ticao and of Masbate; and
3. explore the possibility of integrating the Baybayin syllabary into the existing curriculum in the elementary and secondary levels.
   

This conference will be held in connection with the recent report on the discovery of two (2) stone tablets in an elementary school in Ticao Island saying that the tablets bore inscriptions similar to the ancient Baybayin syllabary that was in use in the place before the Spanish time.

The teachers from both public and private elementary and secondary schools are invited to attend this activity.

A registration fee of One Thousand Two Hundred Pesos (PhP1,200.00) will be charged to each participant from Region V and One Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP1,500.00) each to all other participants. This fee will cover two (2) lunch, and three (3) snacks only. Travel and accommodation expenses are not included.
