DepEd Announces the Franciso "Balagtas" Baltazar Day 2011

The DepEd (Department of Education) announces the celebration of Francisco "Balagtas" Baltazar Day in April 2, 2011. This celebration commemorates the birthday of the great orator, poet and Philippine hero, Francisco "Balagtas" Baltazar.
The Balagtas Day Celebration held every second (2nd) day of April every year will be led by the "Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino" (KWF) pursuant to Proclamation No. 964. As part of this festival, the KWF will conduct a Poetry Writing Contest, of its 75th Anniversary.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Mga Aral ni Balagtas Gabay sa Tuwid na Landas" (in english, "Balagtas Lessons Guide to Righteous Path").

The objectives of the celebration are the following:

• Implement the poetry writing contest
• Discuss the teachings of Balagtas that values ​​effort, unity, and cooperation, as well as the love of language and culture.

This contest is open to all students in the Philippines.
