Mayor Jerome Alcantara of Donsol, Sorsogon, ordered charged of malicious mischief

Philippines - Acting Ombudsman Orlando C. Casimiro ordered the filing of criminal charges against an incumbent municipal mayor in Sorsogon. Mayor Jerome Alcantara of Donsol, Sorsogon and his security aide Jerry Pedragoza were ordered charged for malicious mischief (Article 327, in relation to Article 329, Revised Penal Code).

Records showed that on October 20, 2008, Alcantara caused damage to the vehicle belonging to a certain Lalaine Cadag.

Alcantara allegedly shot the tires and body of the van owned by Cadag with plate number EVN 514 resulting in damage worth P12,000.

His aide reportedly acted as an accomplice by cooperating in the execution of the offense by handing over the firearm in the shooting of Cadag’s car.

It was alleged that Alcantara’s blood pressure rose when he discovered that the owner of the vehicle violated the town’s ordinance which prohibits operators to use San Jose Street at Barangay Poso, Donsol, as their terminal to wait for passengers.

In its resolution, the anti-graft office stated that, "Consequently, he (Alcantara) took matters into his own hands, instead of seeking the assistance of the police.”
