The Foundation, founded by Ingvar Kamprad in December 2011 is a private, independent foundation based in Växjö. Its purpose is to support, encourage and reward teaching and scientific research in such a way that entrepreneurship, environment, skills, health and social development is promoted.
Peter, Jonas and Mathias Kamprad, the owners of Ikano, made a donation to mainly be used for environmental projects, with special focus on opportunities to translate research into practice.
"My brothers and I are grateful to be able to contribute to this initiative," said Peter Kamprad, CEO of IKANO. "We hope the donation of time put into sustainable solutions that benefit the global environment."

The foundation will specifically support projects designed to:
- Improved quality of life for older people
- Entrepreneurship - particularly those that promote a living in countryside
- Better Environment
- Development, research and education in architecture, interiors and design
- Research and education in medicine
The Foundation will strive for practical use of the achieved results, so that scientific advances quickly and many people can benefit. "Ikanos generous gift will strengthen significantly the Foundation's ability to make a difference for many people," says Professor Lena Fritzen, Executive Director of the family Kamprad Foundation.
"The donor's emphasis on environmental and practical application of research responds to an important global needs and is in line with the foundation's mission." The Foundation was originally funded by donations from Ingvar Kamprad and Inter IKEA Group. Currently, the Foundation has a capital of about 1.85 billion, including the donation from Ikano.
In addition, the Inter IKEA Group has decided to annually donate about 270 million euros (30 million) to the foundation, so long as the results of its operations permit. Board intends to establish guidelines for applications at a meeting in August 2012.
