Etymology of the Sinulog Term
The term "Sinulog" derives from the Cebuano word "sulog" which means "like water current movement". The Sinulog dance is compared to the water current movement; two steps forward and one step backward. If you notice the Candle vendors in the Basilica Sto. Niño, they dance Sinulog and sing in Bisaya Language when lighting a candle for the customer
Do you know that the first Sinulog parade was held in 1980? It was David Odilao who first organized the said event. He was then the Regional Director of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development. The parade was composed of students wearing Moro costumes, dancing the Sinulog.
