The water/ ice dispenser will not stop running.

The water/ ice dispenser will not stop running. My Kenmore Elite model Number 253 will not stop dispensing ice and water. If i release the button it will never stop running water and/ or ice. I can put the control lock on and it stops but if I do not have that on it will never stop.
