Repairing stripped earphone cable next to earpiece

Repairing stripped earphone cable next to earpiece
I have a dead earphone from a stripped cable. However the stripped cable is located right next to the rubber 'protector' that leads to the headphone. Is there anyone to strip this and repair it, given the location?
