My 2009 Equinox has been sitting. The rear wheels are locked

My 2009 Equinox has been sitting. The rear wheels are locked I took the break shoes off there fine besides some rust but the router wheel is still locked up. I was told to tap it with a hammer till it breaks free. Is this sound right?
