Fridge only cools when broken light 'button' is pressed

Fridge only cools when broken light 'button' is pressed Hi, my fridge was working fine but when the little light bulb broke I noticed that the fridge itself would need prompting to start cooling - I would need to press the button that was ostensibly only for the light to turn on off and it would immediately start whirring and cooling again. I tried to wedge the button down so it was constantly pressed down but this doesn't seem to have helped. Can take pics later, any ideas would be great.
