Do I need a new board to upgrade from 30gb to 80gb?

Do I need a new board to upgrade from 30gb to 80gb? I read somewhere that the circut board needs to have 64mb of memory to support the 80gb drive. Is that true? If so how can I tell if mine has 32mb or 64mb? I have a 5th gen iPod video with a dead 30gb disk. ANSWERS:
