LCD display shows purple distorted image. Review mode works fine.

Why does my LCD display show a purple distorted image? Also, if I take a photo, it appears just like the LCD image, purple and distorted. The review mode works fine, I can view previous photos OK. The problem was sudden, not a gradual error.
