Popularly known as GSH and nicknamed "Glute”, Glutathione is a protein made up of three amino acids – cysteine (HO2CCHCH2SH), glutamic acid (C5H9NO4) and glycine (NH2CH2COOH). Normally, it is produced by our body and found inside every cell, especially in the immune system. Dr Phillip Chua says in Philippine Daily Inquirer, "GSH is a detoxifying agent, an essential scavenger and neutralizer of the bad free oxygen radicals and peroxides that destroy cells.” Glutathione is a potent antioxidant that facilitates maintenance of intracellular health and helps repair damaged DNA.

Glutathione was discovered in the year 1888. It is such a universal and versatile functioning molecule that shortly after its discovery in 1888 by J. de Rey-Pailhade, this small tripeptide molecule was deemed so important with so many vital functions that it was considered coincident with the "origin of life.”
